Most people can truthfully say “I’m better than Hitler, but I’m not quite Mother Theresa.” They are thinking they are at least average on the “goodness” scale, maybe a good bit better than average. That being the case they feel they will probably go to heaven when they die. If this is what they are counting on to get them into heaven, they are in for a very unpleasant surprise.
No one is good enough to get into heaven. Mark 10:26-27
In John 3:3-21 Jesus explains what it takes to enter the Kingdom of God. He didn’t say you’ll make it to heaven if you’ve done more good than evil, nor even if you’ve done 99% good. He said you need to believe in Him, which means to accept His undeserved gift of Him taking your punishment for not being 100% perfect so that you can take His 100% righteousness.
Nope, you aren’t good enough,
but you are loved enough.
