Of all of the religions in the world, how can I know which is true?

Do you think God is aware that multiple religions will vie for your attention and devotion? Do you think He realizes that some people will doubt His existence? (If you doubt His existence, please suspend your disbelief for a little while just as you do to enjoy a science fiction movie.)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA God who knows the hearts and thoughts of every person, and Who is beyond the limits of time, would certainly know about all the religions in the world, and that people would want proof of His existence. God is not angry with those who doubt His existence. All He has to do is provide some evidence that He is God. That shouldn’t be too difficult for God, should it?

So how could God provide evidence that He exists? He could do something inexplicable such as a miracle or two. He could foretell the future in detail, and the when it happened as predicted, we would realize that there was a Being far greater than a human behind the prophesy. The Bible is full of accounts of miracles and prophecies that have been fulfilled.

Do the rest of this world’s religions offer detailed prophesies that have come true? No. God knows there are other religions vying for your devotion. This is one way of making it apparent to you which one is the Truth.

Another way that God shows us that He is God is by giving life to those who have died. There are multiple accounts of dead people being brought back to life recorded in the Bible. Some tell of people who had recently died being revived, so we may suspect that these people had not really died, but were merely revived after being close to death. There is an account, though, of Lazarus (who had been dead for four days!) being resurrected from the dead by Jesus.

You might suspect that Lazarus’ body was laid to rest in the tomb prior to when signs of death would have been evident. Perhaps, but consider the case of Jesus’ crucifixion as reported by Luke. Luke paid careful attention to details and recorded what he saw. Roman soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, but did not break his legs.  It was typical for them to break the legs of crucifixion victims to hasten their death because they would no longer be able to push their body up to take another breath.  The Roman soldiers were experts at killing people.  They could see that Jesus was already dead and there was no need to break his legs to hasten his death.
